A FENG SHUI CHECKLIST BEFORE 2012

There are many important considerations to take into account when assessing the Feng Shui of a home.  With 2012 coming up it’s a good idea put your home in order, ready for the New Year and the new frontier of change that is already upon us. (More about this in the upcoming edition.

I want to look at some basic do it yourself type actions that can help make sure that nourishing life force energy finds its way to you. Its all about chi and how you can capture and manage it.

Here are some situations that some of us find ourselves in. Work your way through the checklist and see if you recognise any of these circumstances.

Find out how each chi situation can affect you and how it can be resolved.

DOES YOUR FRONT DOOR LINE UP WITH THE BACK DOOR OR WINDOW?

This is a number one negative rule in Feng Shui.  When the front door lines up with the back door or the back large windows, you can wave your wealth goodbye.  It comes in the front and rushes straight out the back, leaving all the other rooms missing out on a visit.  It usually happens when a long hallway connects the front to the back.

If you are designing a new home, make sure you plan one with a large front entrance which directs the chi through the rooms and avoids this unfortunate line up.

If you already live in this kind of design, hang a crystal half way along the hall  to scatter the energy before it gets to the back of the house.

DO YOU HAVE A DEAD STRAIGHT PATHWAY TO YOUR FRONT DOOR?

A straight path to the front door sends the chi in too quickly and that is not good for your health. The ideal is for it to meander to the front door gently along a curving path that is unobstructed by overhanging branches.

If you already have a straight path and can’t change it, plant a ground cover along its edges to soften them. Or you could place pots at strategic spots along the path with ground covers spilling out. This slows the energy down.

IS CLUTTER AN ISSUE IN YOUR HOME?

Clutter is one of the major causes of a whole range of awfulness, such as inefficiency, lack of motivation, lack of productivity, poor health and even depression. It builds up insidiously and then it's harder and harder to tackle because we can be less and less motivated.

If this is you, start by cleaning out one draw, just one draw. Then you’ll notice how a little more lightness has crept into your body. Gradually move on to more draws and then to cupboards as your energy levels grow. See my Declutter Blog at www.frangleesonfengshui.com because I had to work my way through my own clutter too.

DO YOU HAVE STAIRS OPPOSITE YOUR FRONT DOOR?

This is a situation that leads to chi rushing down the stairs and merrily out the door instead of moving through the house. You are left depleted of the nourishment that chi provides and the house will feel less harmonious. To prevent this happening, hang a barrier between the stairs and the door. A crystal is a good option or a low hanging light.

DO YOU HAVE TROUBLESOME NEIGHBOURS?

Neighbours can be pesky and troublesome in all sorts of ways. They may be noisy, argumentative or even prone to invading your privacy.  This is sha chi or quite negative chi coming your way. The traditional cure is to hang a Bagua mirror on the fence between your house and theirs.

Or place it on a wall if you are in an adjoining apartment.  The trick is to place the mirror side against the fence or wall as if it can see though it. A concave mirror is best because this stops the negative energy coming your way but does not send it back to the neighbours.  Then wait to see how things improve. A Bagua mirror is actagonal with a mirror in the middle and the I ching around the outside.

DO YOU LIVE ON A VERY BUSY ROAD?

This is a state of affairs that is once again associated with chi rushing too fast, sailing straight past your house in the moving traffic.  It cannot enter unless you do something to attract its attention. Just as people are attracted to certain houses along a route because of something that catches their eye, chi works in the same way.

So you need to become an attention seeker. Or your house does. Paint the fence an unusual color, put in an unusual letter box, or plant a stunningly beautiful tree in the garden. In fact, a well designed garden in itself is eye catching.  You are limited only by your imagination. Any of these techniques will slow down chi so it can enter your property.

DO YOU LIVE ON A STEEP INCLINE OR DOWN A DIP?

Living up a steep incline means you have to make an extra effort to walk or even drive up to your place. This can translate to you finding life a bit of an effort too. It happens because chi has trouble getting up there to nourish you. So the answer is to lift the energy. There are a number of ways to achieve this.

Firstly you can add in lights along the pathways up to the house.

Secondly,if you place direction markers up the slope or pathway, at intervals, then chi can  find its way up.

DIRECTION MARKERS

They are statues or other symbols that point  or look upwards,  for example a statue of a person or animal looking up towards the house or a sign with an arrow pointing upwards. Plenty of interest higher up in the garden can attract chi upwards as well.

Living down in a dip has the opposite effect. It can mean we can get stuck and unmotivated, because the energy becomes stagnant and too yin.  To give it a boost, once again lighting can help. Place it around the garden, shining up towards the rafters.  Also you need activity, so hang things that move in the breeze like mobiles, or plant grasses that wave in the wind. Avoid using dark colors on the exterior walls of the house. Finally, by planting trees that rise up from the dip you can also lift the energy up.

These are some of the more common ways you can improve chi flow and get ready for 2012.  There’s lots more tips on my website; www.frangleesonfengshui.com

Have a good Christmas!
