FROM THE ASTROLOGERS CONSULTING ROOM
Fortune Tellers versus Astrologers
An Astrological Case Study
Do you believe you have free-will?
Do you believe that you have choices in life?
What was your answer? Good on you if you do believe you are in control, and that you actually do have choices.
People consult fortune tellers (many actually consider astrology to be a fortune telling practice – which it is not) to find out what will happen.
- When will I meet the man of my dreams?
- When will I get a better job?
- When will my finances improve?
If you are given the dates, all you need to do is just sit back and wait. No need to understand your psychology and what makes you tick, or why you keep attracting the wrong type of partner or jeopardise one relationship after another. No need to develop your skills or find your talents or passions to ultimately realise your dream job and be paid accordingly.
If you do enough affirmations, the Universe will provide! Actually, this last sentence is quite true, but you still do need to do the hard yards to ensure that you have the skills, talents and the temperament to successfully gain and perform in a well paying job, attract a suitable partner and maintain a loving relationship.
WHAT CAN YOUR BIRTH CHART/HOROSCOPE REALLY TELL YOU?
What you can do however, is consult an astrologer, as everything you need know is shown in the birth chart/horoscope. It highlights your potential; the talents that you can capitalize on if you are aware of them, or what may develop over time once you become aware of them.
You get an idea of your challenges too; you are here to learn certain lessons that you chose to learn in this incarnation. Some of us choose very difficult lives to fast track our evolutionary development, but for others, this life may be a breeze. Perhaps signifying a karmic time-out period based on our previous lives when we worked our way through difficult challenges and got it right.
If you do not understand YOU, you are more than likely to be operating in an unconscious manner, reducing your potential for success in the business world and in finding happiness in a meaningful relationship.
Knowing the future is all very well and good, however making the most of your opportunities by being aware of all your options is even better. Also knowing when you will be tested and why, is the crux of psychological astrology.
AN ASTROLOGY CASE STUDY
I would like to share with you a summary of a recent client’s experience, and how the symbolism of her planetary aspects against her birth chart clearly highlighted the issue/s and the reason she was faced with this scenario.
I will mention at the outset that each person could experience a different set of circumstances; however it all depends very much on how each person is living out their lives and whether they are operating in accordance with their potential and are on their correct life path.
This client initially ordered a Solar Return report from my website. This is a technique of creating a new chart that shows when the person’s Sun will return to the exact degree it was at birth (this is the “many happy returns” chart aligning with our birthday each year). This type of forecasting report provides a theme for the following 12 months and shows what areas of life are highlighted – not necessarily what will happen, but what you can make happen or not happen with this foresight.

I often look at the client’s birth horoscope, and if anything strikes me as important, I will alert the person. In this case, I noticed that the planet of major transformation (Pluto) was making a challenging aspect to her birth Sun.
The Sun signifies our personal essence, vitality and identity and is one of the main focus points within a horoscope. Pluto connecting with the Sun is an aspect which can indicate an “Identity Crisis”. I alerted her and forwarded an interpretation for this aspect (see paragraph below), and suggested that we have a closer look at her chart and she agreed to proceed with a personal consultation.

No matter which way you look at it, this is a time of transformation. By the end of this period; life will simply not be the same. Basically the purpose is for you to discover a sense of your own personal power; however, the means by which you make this discovery may or may not be pleasant.
The best way to handle this period is to maintain your sense of balance and embrace the excitement and newness that comes with the process of change. Resistance is guaranteed to bring pain and the changes will then be forced on you anyway. By the end of this period you will be far more purposeful.
BECOME THE PHOENIX RISING FROM THE ASHES
We were able to work out that this aspect started in March 2010 and will end October 2012. With an outer planet aspect such as Pluto, it can connect with a personal planet between three and five times over the course of a few years because of each planet’s retrograde motion. This does not mean that there is constant pressure for this entire period.
It is just around the time that these planets connect by aspect that the underlying issues come to a head in an effort to be resolved. If you do not address the problem at each pass, although the energy may reduce considerably in between connections, it will return, with a bigger whammy so that it gets your attention.
You basically have two to four opportunities to make the change of your own volition, however if you don’t, the final connection is generally a real doozy, and whatever it is that you have not changed or relinquished will be taken from you forcibly! You may lose your job, your house, your partner or something else that you don’t want to part with if you can avoid it.
That is the way of Pluto. It generally razes things to the ground; pretty much giving you the opportunity of being the “Phoenix” rising from the ashes. At the time it is generally devastating, however on reflection after the event when the dust settles, many people say it is the best “dramatic change” that could have happened!

This is her story;
In February of 2010, shortly before the exact Pluto/Sun aspect, she was diagnosed with panic disorder and took eleven months disability leave. She had almost daily panic attacks that would last for up to seven hours. Apparently, they had absolutely no psychological basis, as they were not triggered by her thoughts. Her Doctor believed they were physiological. She felt like her whole body was twisting inside and she would pinch and hurt herself just to mute the inner pain. The medications would not work and she even attempted suicide several times because she saw no light at the end of the tunnel.
It goes on;
During that time, she lost her second part-time job which she had had for about ten years and was forced to relocate from her apartment and find new accommodation within 1 week. She had lived in this apartment for the prior ten years as well. Luckily, she had some disability income. She was also taking care of her ailing father who was living with her and her own family (husband and two children) between his stay at the hospital. He passed away in October 2010.
and on;
She also had to suffer from her husband's emotional, verbal and on occasion, physical abuse which was taking its toll on her. A psychologist recommended that she seek refuge at a shelter for abused women with children. After returning home a few days later, she had a meeting with the child protection services and started taking parenting classes and therapy; individually and as a couple with her husband. This lasted for about a nine months.
In November of 2010 she was hospitalized for seven days for suicidal ideations and then started six weeks in an outpatient group therapy program. In the December of 2010 she went back to work.
The phoenix begins to surface:
By February of 2011 she began to feel somewhat balanced and at peace at long last. However, she was no longer the person she used to be.
She had done a lot of work on herself. She began to experiment with a very strict fasting regime. She said; “I finally felt what it was like to have your Higher Self in the driver's seat. It was an amazing experience! It also brought me in touch with some amazing people all over the world”.
In mid 2011 she re-entered a certified professional therapists program that she had enrolled in back in 2009 and will finally be completing it in February 2012.
The phoenix has risen
Now, her career has changed and she is in a completely different profession to her previous job. She is not with her husband any longer, and has started a new relationship with someone more suitable (we checked her new partner’s chart and it matches brilliantly with her own chart). Her future looks bright; and as a therapist, she has the ability to help and influence others and perform a job in a healing profession that she loves. She has taken back her power and now controls her own life.
THE BATTLE WITH PLUTO
The interesting thing is, she knows quite a lot about astrology, however during this tumultuous time, she had not thought to look at her planetary aspects. Could this knowledge have helped her? By gaining the awareness that something fundamental within her needed to change, she may have approached this journey a little differently.
The anxiety that she had may have been understood in that context, and she may have made different choices without becoming suicidal and reduced to experiencing such heartache and pain. On the other hand, perhaps she needed to go down this path to gain the necessary insight to help her become who she is today.
She happened to take the hard road – but for some of us, we may prefer a less intense battle with Pluto.
