INTRODUCING YOUR SOCIAL COMMENTATOR
Published: 10/02/2011 by JODI KELLY
I can only imagine that you are wondering “who is this person who presumes to have an opinion and what qualifications does she bring to the table?”
Well, to be perfectly honest I am no one really and can only draw from nearly 40 years of life experience to reach any sort of conclusions.
I can only offer insights gleaned from my own life which according to some has been interesting, to others terrifying and to me, not nearly long enough as yet!
Hi, my name is Jodi Kelly and first and foremost I am a mother. I am no more and dare I say it, no less qualified to offer an opinion than say someone like Mia Freedman or Symantha Perkins or even yourself.
I certainly don’t propose to have all of the answers but as I have faced many questions over the years. I can certainly offer up my thoughts and as any self respecting woman would know, we as a species have plenty to say. And with a bit of luck and some canny editing, parts of it might even be worth reading?
Well, a bit about me … I am a country girl originally who now lives in suburban Melbourne. I am a mother to the most delightful 9½ year old little girl on the planet, I am a daughter, a sister, an ex-wife, a partner, a lover, a confidante, a best friend and a business owner.
While I have certainly had a colourful career path to date (more about that later), my personal life is by no means less colourful and probably far more entertaining.
I married and divorced an American (the father of my daughter) whom I still adore but God knows I can’t live with! We celebrate as a family on Christmas morning, we celebrate my daughter’s birthday as a family and we enjoy the occasional family dinner (just the 3 of us).
After 6 years of marriage, we separated amicably and all of a sudden I was single again … what a shock and what great water-cooler fodder the following 7 years has provided for my family and friends. So much so that I documented most of the trials and tribulations of a suddenly 30-something single mum (I think commonly referred to as a MILF these days, or so I’d like to believe and most definitely not a Cougar!) and I plan to share some of those stories with you each month.
One of my best friend’s has endured and beaten off cancer 3 times – all before the age of 35 and the daughter of another best friend is living with a brain tumour – the emphasis on living and wow is she fabulous and I love her to distraction.
So I suppose you could say I’ve had plenty of life experience but not necessarily any more than you and yours, I just have an outlet to express it.
My column is designed predominantly to give you a bit of a chuckle – gin and tonic in hand, laptop on the bench, feet up, kids in bed.
If along the way you can take something positive from it and forge ahead, then well and good and if you simply get a chuckle out of a life more dull than your own, then so be it! No harm done or intended!
If you feel like you would want my spin/take on something that is happening in your life or even someone else’s life (they don’t need to know), then email it into me. I will try and include a few each month in my column. Who knows it could be fun for everyone.
Next month, I will start including in each column, an excerpt from my as yet unpublished “Post marriage dating diaries” – I hope you’ll enjoy.
Until then

Well, Jodi, what a refreshing approach and a great introduction. I see from your bio that you are dating a gorgeous creature named Andrew - he must be pretty special and pretty lucky and you are gorgeous yourself
